Lotion P50 line — Biologique Recherche

The Birth of a Legend

The iconic French exfoliant was created in the late 1970s thanks to the visionary approach of Biologique Recherche founders — biologist Yvan Allouche and physiotherapist Josette Allouche. At a time when the cosmetics industry preferred aggressive peels and universal solutions, Yvan Allouche sought a way to restore skin balance more effectively and gently.

The result of his research was Lotion P50 — a multifunctional exfoliating product that gently removes dead cells, regulates skin pH, supports epidermal regeneration, and prepares the skin for maximum absorption of active ingredients.

Philippe Allouche, the founders' son and a doctor, recalled the product's origin during our last meeting in the Czech Republic: "I remember when my father created P50 at our home. First, my mother used it, then we started recommending it to acquaintances — and it was thanks to its growing popularity that the Biologique Recherche brand itself came into being."

Philippe Allouche also points out that P50 was never meant to be a common toner: "From the beginning, it was conceived as a professional skin-renewing treatment, not a classic toner."

Philippe Allouche later participated in the product's reformulation after phenol was banned in cosmetics by the European Union. The original formula was replaced by a sophisticated combination of natural active ingredients, making today's Lotion P50 even more comfortable, safer, and remarkably effective.

The P50 Code

What does the P50 code mean? We get this question from clients very often. The letter "P" refers to the word peeling and the number 50 symbolizes approximately 50 days — the time needed for complete epidermal regeneration.

Exceptionality

Lotion P50 has gained cult status due to its ability to visibly improve skin quality, unify its texture, and restore a healthy glow to the skin. It's not just about exfoliation. P50 also supports the reconstruction of the protective skin barrier and helps the skin function healthier as a whole.

It helps to:

  • gently exfoliate,
  • regulate excessive sebum production,
  • hydrate,
  • maintain optimal acidic skin pH,
  • support cell renewal,
  • minimize clogged pores and acne breakouts,
  • prepare the skin for subsequent care.

It also works great as a prevention for ingrown hairs, making it ideal for pre and post-shaving care.

The formula contains a combination of exfoliating acids, vitamins, and botanical extracts — such as onion, myrtle, myrrh, plankton, burdock, or Quillaja saponaria bark extract.

Very Important P50

Lotion P50 has found its way into the routines of many celebrities and world-renowned facialists. Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, Victoria Beckham, and Nicole Richie, for example, publicly mention it in their skincare.

Known facialist Toska Husted, for instance, revealed that Jennifer Aniston uses the P50 PIGM 400 version, while Bella Hadid applies Lotion P50 before shows and photoshoots to achieve the iconic glow effect.

Application

Apply P50 with a cotton pad by gently pressing it into the skin of the face, neck, and décolleté. Avoid the eye area and lips.

If you are new to Lotion P50, we recommend using a damp cotton pad for the first two weeks to make the exfoliation more gradual and comfortable. In the first few days, the skin may react with slight redness or stinging — this is a normal reaction associated with balancing the skin's pH.
